Mauritania has achieved a significant milestone in its energy sector with the announcement of a new partnership in gas exploration. QatarEnergy has reached an agreement with Shell to acquire a 40% working interest in Block C-10, located off the coast of Mauritania.

Under the agreement, Shell will hold a 50% stake in the Block C-10 exploration and production agreement, while Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH) will hold a 10% stake. The acquisition is subject to customary Mauritanian government approvals.

Block C-10 spans an area of approximately 11,500 square kilometers, situated about 50 kilometers off the coast of Mauritania. Water depths in the area range from around 50 to 2,000 meters.
