Mauritania Hosts International Conference to Accelerate Green Hydrogen Financing in Africa

The Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, in partnership with the African Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA), the Green Hydrogen Organization (GH2), and the World Bank, hosted an international conference in Nouakchott last weekend. The event aimed to accelerate the financing of green hydrogen projects in Africa. The conference attracted major energy companies overseeing the launch of green hydrogen projects in Mauritania, including Masdar, CWP, CHARIOT, Total Eren, and BP, as well as a large number of companies and investors seeking to enter the energy market in Mauritania.

At the conference's opening, His Excellency the Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Mr. Abdel Salam Ould Mohamed Saleh, highlighted that Mauritania has enormous potential in renewable energy, making it an ideal location for the production of green hydrogen. He stated that Mauritania has a renewable energy potential estimated at over 4,000 gigawatts, of which 500 could be developed while respecting the most stringent environmental standards.

During the conference, representatives from companies overseeing the launch of green hydrogen projects in Mauritania presented a clear vision of the projects' path and prospects. These projects are pioneering, aiming to supply international markets with green hydrogen. Hydrogen projects under launch in Mauritania include the Aman project, in cooperation with CWP, with a total capacity of 30 gigawatts, the "Noor" project, in cooperation with Chariot and TotalEREN, with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts, the bp project with a total capacity of 30 gigawatts, and a project bringing together the Egyptian Infinity companies, Masdar Abu Dabhi, and the German Conjucta, with a total capacity of 15 gigawatts.
