The Glasgow Joint Declaration was signed by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and CWP Global on November 4th, 2021, during the COP26 Climate Summit in Scotland. The declaration supports the new global goals of accelerating the development of green hydrogen to decarbonize heavy industries and transportation. Mauritania, with its abundant wind and solar energy, has committed to the African Green Hydrogen Alliance and the UN's High-Level Champions for Climate Action. In May 2021, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to develop the 30GW AMAN green hydrogen project, which is estimated to increase the country's GDP by 50% by 2030. The declaration confirms the implementation of the second phase of the project and sets a timetable for its development, with production set to commence before 2030. The project is expected to have a significant impact on Mauritania's economy by creating jobs and contributing to the global energy transition.

London-based company Chariot has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Mauritanian government for the production and export of green hydrogen through the Nour project. With a planned capacity of 10 GW, the project will utilize renewable energy sources, solar and wind, to produce clean electricity via electrolysis. The Mauritanian government has granted Chariot exclusive rights to approximately 14,400 square kilometers of land and offshore area for pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. The company plans to begin its assessment of wind and solar resources, environmental impact, and macroeconomic and social impact studies immediately. The Nour project has the potential to make Mauritania a leading producer and exporter of green hydrogen, bringing environmental, economic, and social benefits to the country.

BP has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mauritania government to explore the potential of producing green hydrogen in the country. BP will conduct studies to determine the technical and commercial feasibility of producing green hydrogen in Mauritania, which is produced through the electrolysis of water powered by renewable energy. BP will first collect data on the suitability of wind and solar resources in selected locations for large-scale green hydrogen production. BP and Mauritania already have a long-standing relationship, including the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim liquefied natural gas project and the BirAllah gas resource exploration. BP is working on a global portfolio of green and blue hydrogen projects in various countries.
